A control which is an essential part of the central processing unit of a computer. It controls the other basic hardware units in such a manner that all operations are conducted in the correct time and logic sequence. It also prevents the introduction of a new task prior to completion of the task in process. The control comprises an instruction counter, an instruction and index register and comparator.
