Ferrule.
An item usually of one piece construction, but which may be comprised of more than one piece, designed to be affixed permanently or temporarily to the end of an electrical conduit to form an end fitting. Unflanged items form a permanent end fitting which affords mechanical protection to emerging conductors. Flanged items are used with another fitting normally a conduit coupling nut, to make the conduit adaptable for connection to an electrical connector, junction box or other conduit accessory or fitting. Excludes ring, electrical bonding; bushing, electrical conduit; and bushing, plain sleeve. See also ferrule-nut coupling, electrical conduit.
