Definition Voltage Regulator

A component within a single inclosure or provided with a single mounting specifically designed to control automatically the voltage output of an electrical system within certain required limits, regardless of variations of the effective load or of input voltages within a specific range. Does not include items in which regulation is accomplished solely by transformer action. See also regulator set, voltage. Excludes regulator, engine generator.
