Definition Electronic Access Control

A device specifically designed to remotely open or close a locking system when properly activated by a series of codes or audible signals. It is intended to prevent unauthorized entrance or exit for an inclosed area. It may have a battery standby back up unit when main power fails. It may also have one of several types of remote alarms, audible, signal light, camera, and the like. Excludes control alarm; control, electrical frequency; control, interlock; and control, remote switching.
